1. How can I sign up for a Northern Academy online class?
Contact your county training coordinator/staff development person to sign up.
2. How long does it take to complete an online class?
It depends on the class that you are signed up for and whether or not you are able to set aside uninterrupted time to complete the class. Our online classes vary from five to ten credit hours. Most of them are five credit-hour classes, which means, it takes about five hours to complete a class (but we don’t recommend that you complete a class in one sitting). All of our online classes are scheduled for a two-week period. At any time during that two week period, you can log on to do the reading and forum assignments.
3. What does ‘instructor-guided’ mean?
An online instructor-guided class is a self-paced class that is moderated by an instructor. The instructor is only available to moderate discussion forums, grade the assignments and answer any training related questions that participants may have during the class’ scheduled dates.
4. What is an asychronous training?
Asynchronous means not occurring in real time. Asynchronous training usually occurs remotely, and participants can log on to the online class at their convenience to do the assignments. Communication with the instructor and other participants is usually done through discussion forums or by email.
